What does isolation mean? First of all, I don't think we were ever meant to live in isolation. I mean sure, sometimes we all like to be alone and have some time to ourselves, but isolation... every day... We were created for relationship, to live in community. That is maybe why it takes 2 people to start a family and then the family is its own little community.
Aside from our current situation of #quarentine, isolation unfortunately occurs every day for many people. People are old, or ill and stuck alone in a nursing home by no choice of their own. There are those who feel inadequate, or not good enough, maybe never really fit in anywhere and they live lonely days and nights alone. The addict who lost his wife and kids and his family is tired of helping him out and he ends up homeless, on the streets, alone. I could go on and on and on describing the aloneness that people face but I want to get to the heart of the matter. Every human has a need to be needed, to be appreciated, to be loved. I know I do. And if you are honest, you do too. The words of Jesus tell us that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. How about we start to truly do that? How bout I smile and wave, strike up a conversation, ask someone how they are doing? Everyone wants to feel valued. You know that you do! Let's start by just being kind, generous and caring to those we come into contact with. You never know what battle people are facing. We all have them, you know. It only takes a spark to get a fire going...
